i had some first-world problems with my internet last night, the isp going down all over Belfast - and i thought, no worries, i'll just fire up Steam and play a game

thing is, even though i wanted to use the offline mode, steam said no because it couldn't sign in to the network to initialise offline - something about not having sign-in details stored on my PC

i thought this was pretty silly, but it made me think about all those games which require one to be online to play…and i think that's the most poop-headed move any company has ever implemented

but anyways; i was okay so don't worry - i just had a nice quiet evening instead

Not OP, but while Ulfric is a shithead, and I have always been a diehard Imperialist…THEY are the traitors. They have not just sided with filthy murderous Thalmor, they have given them full reign over the empire. It won't destroy the Empire, but it is enough to kick it hard in the teeth until the Thalmor slip up and show their true face to the Empire once more, so Humanity and Beastfolk can finally unite and rise against the Mer (Dark Elves and Orks are aiight).

It is a double insult to Tiber Septims' legacy, regardless of his divinity (hey, his shrine cures and blesses me…sounds like a deity to me.)

You do realize that the Empire only agreed to the White-Gold Concordat as a temporary reprieve to rebuild forces before going back to war? Even Ulfric comes to figure this out and regret his rebellion when you kill him.

> tfw You realize instead of training able soldiers to use the voice to win a war with the Thalmor Ulfric rebelled against the Empire and weakened both it and Skyrim

You know why I can't get into many RTS games, /v/?

Because this was my first RTS game. War Wind came out in 1996 and it was hard as balls. You start off with limited units and mined for resources and such like typical RTS games, but if you wanted a better unit you had to TRAIN your previous units and slowly build up a decent army all while being assaulted nearly constantly from enemy attacks that only got more and more deadly as time went on. It seems pretty standard fare, but there were times when there was one and ONLY one correct way to win a map (and most were puzzle like in their creation) which meant you could spend hours implementing the wrong strategy to get utterly destroyed because you have focused on a few elite forces to get an early strike at the other side of the map.

All other RTS games were for scrubs to me.

What game did you play that soured your taste for other games in the same genre because others simply couldn't compare?

It is the most fun RTS there is.
Hands down.
Not the most skill dependent, or complicated, just the most fun.
I find it more fun to turtle and make fuckawesome bases and patrol routes personally, but that's just me.
Any RTS that rewards turtling and having intriquite basebuilding? I really liked making units patrol an area in a good group, or having walls surrounding my bases with the entry being guarded by a pillbox or a pair of deployed GIs.

Do you like Sandbox Survival RPG's?

Try Wurm Online, it's one of the best. It's what Minecraft was supposed to be and is the original game Notch was working on until he ditched it and made the dumbed down version you see today.

You might remember the game as having bad graphics but they recently re-did a ton of models, added new animations, and have been refining the graphics over the course of years. On maximum settings it's one of the best looking PC games around. It would be number one if the textures were higher-res.

I played it when it first came out, I found it kind of fun. That being said your crops grow in real time and used to take a day to mature, so once you "farmed" for like 2 minutes you had jack shit to do.

Then they started adding in the whole interaction thing and it became what it is.

With all of that being said, it has no "fun" aspect with exception to the fact you feel like you're building something.

>Raiden was a murder machine before he hit puberty.

That's just some stupid shit you heard in a codec conversation. The series never does anything to earn the reputation a claim like that requires. In fact the series generally does the opposite: Every aspect of Raiden oozes some kid completely detached from real violence. Practically the first thing he says is that he is proud of VR violence and thinks it makes him a real man. He goes on to live in somebody's shadow while trying to man up. By the time of MGS4, he has undergone excessive surgery and fights as though he doesn't give a shit about dying, again because he's trying to live up to Snake. None of this coincides and in fact contradicts a kid who got fucked up murdering a bunch of people. And no "forgetting your past" doesn't count because humans don't do that to that extent, that's just a cover the writer made up because he ass was hanging out.

Shit like this is why people hate MGS2 fans, none of them actually put any thought into the supposedly amazing plot.
