Believe it or not, violence has been in decline over long stretches of time, and we may be living in the most peaceful time in our species' existence. The decline of violence, to be sure, has not been steady; it has not brought violence down to zero; and it is not guaranteed to continue.

Pic related, it's a graph by the archeologist Lawrence Keeley in 1996 that shows the likelihood of a man dying at the hands of another hands in a number of contemporary hunter-gatherer societies from the New Guinea Highlands and the Amazon Rainforest.
Note that the "Europe and US" bar includes all the deaths from both World Wars

Let's have an art thread. Post anything that strikes you as beautiful. No modern-art, expressionist, post-modern anti-art degeneracy, preferably.

I don't know the names of artistic movements, although I know I like romanticism. I'll start by posting a few I have saved just to get the thread rolling and to let you know what the general tone will be for this thread.

(Paintings, sculptures, architecture, anything that is aesthetic and thought-provoking is fine by me.)

so basically for real analysis I just have to prove shit like

let f be a function that is continous on the interval [a,b], let (x1,x2) exist in the interval [a,b] and let x be a point in (x1,x2)

if f(x1)<f(x2) then f(x) takes every value in the range [f(x1),f(x2)]

prove this is true

Poppler wood can be used because EMG pickups. EMG-clones can be used because EMG are expensive as hell. Maybe I'll build an amp later this summer. I'll post some pics soon.

I'm looking into getting my A+ certification(US). Anyone have any links to good study materials(preferably free, but will pay)? Also, after that what training should I look for to go forward?

File: 1369075230842.jpg (1.23 MB, 1894x2914, 1982_MAD_MAX_2_poster_5.jpg)

What specifically are you looking to do?

I have had mine for over 6 years now; certifications that focus on hardware installation and all that don't represent a significant investment in either time or money to achieve (go hard on just about any given book on the subject for a week or two and you're pretty much guaranteed to pass) so adding them as padding to your resume is "something" I suppose, but the unfortunate part about that is that employers know it. I'd never taken a job offer that fit the certification I'd earned because none of them paid as well as the menial jobs I'd had at the time (though in hindsight I did not look very hard to be perfectly honest). One place I'd approached that specialized in that sort of thing for example had sort of an assembly line where young nerds were put to task diagnosing and fixing several computers at a time for $11 an hour; way below the median wage of my state but perhaps at the very least a little better than working at a gas station or at mcdonald's if you've no other option.

I made a thread about this very subject some time ago and I was advised by an individual purporting to be experienced in these matters to take up programming instead and I'll pass that advice on to you. If you've the stones for it, programming doesn't seem to be something that large numbers of people are capable of or have the inclination for so the pay is reasonably high and the job market not yet saturated in such a manner that finding a job once you've earned your credentials becomes nigh impossible (at least in my anecdotal experience, none of my friends or associates who decided to take up programming have ever been out of a job for long)

Thanks. Programming is something I was looking at. I just wanted a good base because while I'm good at troubleshooting random errors for my office(thanks Google) I don't know why the fixes work and what originally broke them. It doesn't give you anything that isn't easy to Google or figure out by tinkering. And it's basically useless for getting jobs. But if you don't have that background it's probably a pretty well-rounded way to get that knowledge.

Time in the gym ranges from 45 minutes to a little over an hour. I usually increase by 10lb,25lb or 45lb increments so it's only adding one plate per set and not time consuming. Tomorrow is pull day so I'll post that log afterwards. When I'm cutting I only do 2 heavy days a week, then 3-4 speed work/bodybuilding days(nothing special). Any of you ever taken any CLEP courses?

I'm trying to get a degree as cheaply as possible. I've got a few basic credits from a comm college, and honestly I think college was easy enough that I could probably test out of credit hour that CLEP tests are available for.

Anybody ever done anything like this, where you just said fuck college and took all the CLEP courses, went to a comm college to let them package them into a degree, and then said fuck the system?

No.20368

I didn't know there were CCs that would allow you to do that on a large scale. Don't most of them have a set of core requirements and degree requirements that would force you to take their specific classes?

I did get 12 credits of Spanish through CLEP back in the days when you could still use all those credits toward a minor at my college, so I just had to take one actual Spanish class and got a minor. But I was under the impression that that's generally not possible anymore.

If anyone at the bar ever calls you out on a girly drink choice, just say "ya wanna fight about it?" which is, of course, a very manly response, and they should back down. Otherwise you get into a fight, which isn't girly at all, and everyone can have a laugh about it afterwards.
